Parental Engagement – Where the Magic Happens…
Parental engagement is about motivating and supporting parents to take an active interest in their child’s learning. Engaging in learning and giving their child that extra support at home fosters a shared enjoyment of learning and empowers both parents and children.
Why is it important?
Lots of studies have shown that, on average, a parent engaging with their child's learning has a positive impact on how much they learn at school each year.
What is the Learning with Parents approach to supporting Parental Engagement?
Learning with Parents thinks of parents as the expert in their children but NOT as teachers. Parents are their child's biggest influencer. A parent who shows how much they value learning is a great role model for their children. We hope to help families build a shared love of learning together!
Our programmes gives parents the knowledge and information they need to be able to support their children. The activities are designed to be fun, inclusive and away from screens
We want to help families to have enjoyable learning experiences together. And for us, it is the interactions that children have with the adults at home which are the most valuable.
We often see parents commenting on how the time they spend interacting with our programme is supporting positive time with their child and allows more bonding time together. 75% of parents in our most recent survey said they enjoyed learning together with their child.
We design our activities with the following themes in mind…
TALK…
All our topics are linked to learning in school, but it is the talk surrounding and within the activities which is the most important. Talk is not limited to our English activities. It plays an equally important part in Maths.
PLAY…
Children are born to learn through play. Anyone who’s ever seen a baby delightedly scrunching up wrapping paper or making faces in a mirror has seen a little scientist at work. Playful exploration is our natural way of learning.
EXPLORING…
Children are natural scientists. There are not right or wrong answers in the activities it is all about enjoying exploring topics together.
REAL WORLD…
Making learning relevant! Our programme uses technology to support learning and interactions. But every activity is designed to be done in the real world together. We go on screen to come off screens.
FUN…
Our activities are meant to be enjoyable for parents as well as the children!
COLLABORATIVE and CLEAR…
We work hard to give simple instructions as to what the parent role is in the activity, as well as the child, so you can just get on and do it.
